Earning Extra Money at Home

It has been almost three years since I created a post to this blog.  Sometimes life gets in the way of our abilities to do the things that we enjoy.

Over the last three years my focus has changed.  I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be able to replace my full time income with a work at home program so I started looking for companies that hire Work at Home agents and I have an huge list of companies.  Each company has been researched and they are legitimate.  I will explain what benefits they offer if any and how to apply.  All of the companies that I tell you about will be real companies with annual revenue over 1 million dollars.  To me this is the best work for a stay at home Mom or Dad to make extra money or earn a living without being taken advantage of or ripped off.

A number of the companies offer benefits like insurance, paid time off and paid holidays.  In my humble opinion this is a much safer way to go and there are no out of pocket expenses, you just have to apply with a resume and cover letter.

I hope that by listing these companies, everyone will have more success with living the dream of working from home and having more time with their families.

Are Work At Home Jobs Legitimate?

Well the short answer is yes. The longer answer is yes & no. Sorry about that.

I don’t think there can be any doubting the legitimacy of working from home while answering phones for a large established company that just wants to tap in to the more flexible, and usually cheaper, WAHM or retired market. A professional job without the overheads for the company or the travel costs for the telecommuter. The problems arise when the company isn’t in the FTSE or NASDAQ.

If ‘Bobs Gardening’ in Vegas wants an out-of-hours customer support agent he can put a post on a site like ours and reach the very people he needs. But is Bob evil? Will Bob take a months worth of your work and then decide to fire you without pay? Is Bob legitimate?

Here are a few litmus tests to use when asking are work at home jobs legitimate -

1. What kind of email is the job poster using? Is it a free gmail account or is it acompany.com? If it’s acompany.com check that the address has a website. If its a gmail or yahoo don’t fret, they may not want their company inbox jammed up, just send them an initial message or resume but after reaching the negotiation stage make sure you do so through their bona fide email address.

2. Once you’ve checked that their methods of communication are legit then check that the company itself is. You can go through government bodies to check credentials but this is usually overkill. Just google the company name and see if any red flags go up.

3. Get paid fast. The above suggestions are fine when working for people that have some sort of registered company, but what about those that need you most. The one-(wo)man-band that is juggling 10 different aspects of his/her business at once that desperately needs a flexible hand.
They may only have a gmail account! The simplest test is to get paid early and often. If you’ve just started working for someone insist on getting paid weekly, or even daily, until you build that trust between each other. This way if Bob is evil you’ll only have lost a little time and cash.

So – are work at home jobs legitimate? Yes, but take a few initial steps to make sure your employer is the good sort, they’ll understand, and as the trust grows you’ll become their telecommuting right hand and there’s nothing like being indispensable.

New Scam Alert

Quick Summary:

If you begin receiving a lot of phone calls with dead air, recorded messages, or even phone sex menus, contact your financial institutions and telephone service provider immediately. Use an alternate phone other than your home phone to contact all of the financial organizations you do business with and explain the situation to them. They should help you temporarily halt any new transactions.

Detailed Summary:

Type: Telephone Denial-of-Service Scam

Method of Delivery: Landline or Cell Phone

Scam Characteristics:

It's a new twist on an old scam. Criminals are using automated dialing programs to send thousands of phone calls to victims in an effort to tie up their phone lines.

The reason? To distract them while the scammer empties their bank accounts. And because the phone lines are busy, banks trying to verify the validity of transactions can't get through. Even if the bank declines a suspicious purchase or withdrawal, the criminal, posing as the victim, calls the bank, and verifies the transaction using identity information they stole earlier.

The scam usually starts weeks or months in advance as scammers use computer viruses or phishing emails to gain private information about the victim, including passwords, account numbers, and answers to security questions the bank may ask ("What's your mother's maiden name?"). The barrage of phone calls causing a denial-of-service is often the culmination of patient planning.

Steps you can take to help avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
  • If you begin receiving a lot of phone calls with dead air, recorded messages, or even phone sex menus, contact your financial institutions and telephone service provider immediately. Use an alternate phone other than your home phone to contact all of the financial organizations you do business with and explain the situation to them. They should help you temporarily halt any new transactions.
  • Change your online passwords often. Especially if you bank online, or use an online payment service. People often forget how much of their personal information is stored online. That's why it is so important to change these passwords regularly, and especially if you have recently had a computer virus.
  • Protect your information. These criminals are patient and may try to access your information several different ways. Remember to never share your personal information with unsolicited callers (the same goes for email), be cautious of how much information you share on social networking sites, and always protect your computer with antivirus.
