Well the short answer is yes. The longer answer is yes & no. Sorry about that.
I don’t think there can be any doubting the legitimacy of working from home while answering phones for a large established company that just wants to tap in to the more flexible, and usually cheaper, WAHM or retired market. A professional job without the overheads for the company or the travel costs for the telecommuter. The problems arise when the company isn’t in the FTSE or NASDAQ.
If ‘Bobs Gardening’ in Vegas wants an out-of-hours customer support agent he can put a post on a site like ours and reach the very people he needs. But is Bob evil? Will Bob take a months worth of your work and then decide to fire you without pay? Is Bob legitimate?
Here are a few litmus tests to use when asking are work at home jobs legitimate -
1. What kind of email is the job poster using? Is it a free gmail account or is it acompany.com? If it’s acompany.com check that the address has a website. If its a gmail or yahoo don’t fret, they may not want their company inbox jammed up, just send them an initial message or resume but after reaching the negotiation stage make sure you do so through their bona fide email address.
2. Once you’ve checked that their methods of communication are legit then check that the company itself is. You can go through government bodies to check credentials but this is usually overkill. Just google the company name and see if any red flags go up.
3. Get paid fast. The above suggestions are fine when working for people that have some sort of registered company, but what about those that need you most. The one-(wo)man-band that is juggling 10 different aspects of his/her business at once that desperately needs a flexible hand.
They may only have a gmail account! The simplest test is to get paid early and often. If you’ve just started working for someone insist on getting paid weekly, or even daily, until you build that trust between each other. This way if Bob is evil you’ll only have lost a little time and cash.
So – are work at home jobs legitimate? Yes, but take a few initial steps to make sure your employer is the good sort, they’ll understand, and as the trust grows you’ll become their telecommuting right hand and there’s nothing like being indispensable.

Remember to never share your personal information with unsolicited callers (the same goes for email), be cautious of how much information you share on social networking sites, and always protect your computer with antivirus.

Certified is a full-service, national field organization providing services including Auditing and Mystery Shopping (excluding Nevada), In-store Merchandising, In-theatre Checking and Material Installation, and many other on-site services. At any given time, millions of dollars worth of merchandise is bought and sold through online auctions and classified ads. While the vast majority of sellers are legitimate, cybercriminals have begun using these popular methods of commerce to steal the personal and financial information of people looking to find a great deal.
Here's how it works: The thief sets up a fraudulent auction for a product they do not actually have in stock. Once the auction has ended and the buyer has paid, the thief will use a stolen credit card to purchase an identical item from a retailer or manufacturer and have it shipped directly to the purchaser. The thief is out nothing (remember, they used a stolen credit card) and now they have your credit card information.
The following are steps you can take to help avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
• Never provide financial information directly to the seller. Use a reputable third party payment service such as PayPal that acts as an intermediary and offers some kind of buyer's protection.
• When using online auction sites, check each seller's rating and feedback, looking closely at sales and feedback posting dates. Try to avoid sellers with 100% positive feedback and a low total number of posts around the same date and time. This may be an indication that the seller is using fake usernames and posting fraudulent feedback to boost their approval ratings.
• If, after purchasing from an independent seller, you receive a shipment from someone other than the seller you purchased from, contact the sender directly to verify the account used for the purchase belongs to you. If the card number does not match, contact the auction site administrator to notify them of the potentially fraudulent transaction.

U.S. Census Scam
Beginning March of this year the U.S. Census Bureau's will send out a short questionnaire to every household in the U.S. and Puerto Rico in an effort to collect important demographic data. As a citizen, you are required by law to respond to the 10 short questions. From April to July, those that haven't completed their census will receive a visit at their home address from a census taker.
Identity criminals are taking advantage of the census law and targeting unsuspecting victims in an attempt to steal sensitive information. The scams perpetrated range from fraudulent emails designed to obtain sensitive information to attempts to impersonate census collectors.
Most Citizens don't think twice about sharing personal information with a census worker, and that's why these scams can be very effective. It's important to remember there are distinct differences between a real census worker and an identity thief posing as a census worker.
U.S. Census workers will have identification, a handheld device and a confidentiality notice. But these things can be easily fabricated, so it's important to know what census workers will not do:
•They will not ask for your Social Security number or financial information, e.g. bank or credit card accounts.
•They will not ask you for money or say that you owe money.
•They will not harass or intimidate you.
•They will not contact you by email- only by phone, by mail, or in person.

Profit Miracle - One Month Later
Well I submitted for a refund today. It has been a month and even though I followed all the steps and watched the videos, I have not made a single sale. For the most part my affiliate links aren't even getting hits. I am sorry, Profit Miracle is NOT tool you need to start earning a substantial income at home. :(
I was very hopeful about this product due to the fact that I could not find anything bad on the Internet so in that way the system works, there are so many articles out there regarding Profit Miracle and they are all getting top rank that it is impossible to find a true account of the program.
I think the idea is a good one and in theory it should work like a charm, but I having spent hours configuring and working with this program, I am disappointment to not even make one sale in a money.

Profit Miracle - Telephone Conference

Well I had my telephone meeting with Profit Miracle tonight. I thought that purpose of the telephone call was to discuss how I was doing with the program and to discuss any problems that I am having. That was not the purpose of the call. Basically they wanted to get preliminary information to add me to the mentoring program (at an extra charge which was not discussed) so I can be successful with the program.
I basically told him that I was not interested in investing more money without seeing the program work. I have been using Profit Miracle for 6 days now and I have not see any more hits to my affiliate code for the products that I am promoting and I have made no sales.
I submitted a second product tonight and we will see how that article does. I will keep everyone informed of my process. I really want to believe that Profit Miracle is a good program and will help people make money at home. As of right now, I can not say that.

I got a call of the author of Profit Miracle tonight. We scheduled a 6:00 meeting tomorrow night to discuss my progress with using this program and to get help.
Wow, I am amazed. Assuming that the call is going to be about the program and how to properly use it and not a sales call to get me to try more of his programs. I will let everyone know how the phone calls goes tomorrow night.
He told me I would need a paper and pen and a computer so I can follow along and try the things that he suggests. I can't wait!

While this phishing scam has existed for years, it resurfaces often and is still commonly used to steal personal identity information.
The following are steps you can take to help avoid becoming a victim of this scam:
- NEW! If you are planning to donate via text message, double check the phone number you are texting to. Scammers may set up similar phone numbers in the hope that you may misdial and send your donation into the pockets of a thief.
- I strongly recommend that you only make contributions to known organizations using a published phone number, postal address, or website. If you are contacted by an unknown organization seeking donations, I advise that you verify the legitimacy of the group by confirming their existence and status as a nonprofit before making any contributions.
- It is recommended that you make all contributions directly to the organization, and never through a third party.
- Rather than following a link to a site, I encourage you to access the charity's website directly by typing their published website address in your browser's address bar. Scammers often mimic the design of a real charity's website to trick donors into providing them with private information.
- Attempt to verify the legitimacy of the organization by using various Internet-based resources (Google, Yahoo!, etc.).

So I started off doing what I do. I preformed a Google search for “supportingfriends scam”. Believe me when I say, there was nothing nice said about this site in any of the search results.
So I took my research to the next level and tried to e-mail their support people (support@supportingfriends.com) and the message was instantly sent back to me as undeliverable. I never consider it a good sign when you can not contact support for a company.
So I looked up the domain information and found that supportingfriends.com is the same as myHPF.com, which is a British Paid to Search scam site. So I continued and checked the BBB and see if there were any complaints filed against the company and what I found was complaints of non-payments, non-credits, and termination of accounts without good reason.
I would love to test this site for this reader, but with the structure of payouts I would not be able to give a full review until April or May assuming that I got credit every time I used the site for my searches.
Therefore, I am going to tell people to use caution when using this site. I believe that it is a scam and that your hard work will go unpaid. Let me explain how this site is making money even though you don’t have to pay to join.
You will notice that I have a Google Search bar at the top of this page. Every time someone enters a search term, searches and then clicks on a link found by the search I get earn money and that money is how I keep this site going. I use the money earned off this blog to purchase programs and try them and then report back to you
(This is in NO WAY a solicitation for you to use my Google search randomly so I can earn more money, if you have a legitimate search use the bar, if not, please do not search using my bar, it will get me banned from Google).
I know that yahoo has a similar program, but I prefer Google, so every time you search on supportingmyfriends.com, the company earns money that they have promised to share with you, but they don’t if the BBB complaints are any indication.

Scammers are using the outbreak of the H1N1 virus (better known as the "swine flu") to lure unsuspecting victims into exposing their personal information.
Identity thieves and computer hackers, posing as representatives of the Center for Disease Control (CDC), are sending emails containing a link to create a "Personal H1N1 Vaccination Profile" as part of a state vaccination program.
The "Create Personal Profile" link appears legitimate but takes victims to a fraudulent website where scammers attempt to install malware and collect personal identity information.

TestSpin Surveys
I wrote an article on TestSpin back in October for 2007 and I am excited to report that TestSpin now gives members the option to receive PayPal Cash as a method of payment. Previously, you had to select Amazon gift Certificates as your payout method. I think this great because I am no longer restricted to spending the money I earn at Amazon.

American Consumer Opinion
American Consumer Opinions is another survey site that I have been a member of for years.
I find that American Consumer Opinion is a little different from other survey sites in the fact that they do not list open surveys on their web site. Panel members who are invited to complete a survey are sent an email from Anne Parks that contains the web address of the survey they are invited to complete. I know what you are thinking, all site send e-mails, which is true, but in addition to sending e-mails most sites have a place where you can log in and check on currently available surveys. American Consumer Opinion does not.
They use the information from the registration page (such as age, gender, geographic location, type of employment, and more) to match against the criteria for each survey on a case-by-case basis.
I receive 1 to 5 surveys a week from them and the compensation is $1 to up to $10, that is most I have ever encounter. What also makes them different is even if you don't qualify to take the survey, they enter you into a monthly drawing for $10,000.
Of course like all legitimate get paid for your opinion sites, it is free to join and only takes about 5 minutes to complete the application for membership.

Vocal Labs - Get Paid to Make Calls
Vocal Labs is different from other survey sites that I will be listing in the next couple of weeks. Because you get paid to call a toll-free phone number, try to get some information or complete a task, and then do an on-line survey about your experience.
Vocal Lab customers are usually interested in knowing what your experience was like, so they can improve their customer service. Sometimes, you may be asked to visit a web site, or send E-mail somewhere. There may be times you will be asked to do something at a particular time or on a particular day.
Generally, the more things you are asked to do, the more money the survey is worth. You are paid at least 50 cents per completed task and on average it is about a $1.00. The money is sent to your paypal account 5 days after completing the task there is NO minimum payout amount.
